Dr. Lawrence S. Brown Jr. was appointed chair of the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee for a one-year term by Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen effective Jan. 30.
The chair is appointed from among the current members who make up the 11-member panel.
Established in 2003, CCAC members advise the Secretary of the Treasury on any topic or design proposal relating to circulating currency, bullion currency, Congressional gold medals, and national and other medals.
They also advise the Secretary of the Treasury regarding the events, persons, or places to be commemorated by the issuance of commemorative coins in each of the five calendar years following the year in which a commemorative coin designation is made. done.
Additionally, they make recommendations regarding the mintage level of any recommended commemorative coin.
Dr. Brown was first appointed to the CCAC for a four-year term in 2019 to represent the interests of the general public.
A dedicated numismatic collector since the age of 12 with an interest in modern circulating and commemorative coins of the United States, Dr. Brown, a Vietnam veteran, is a clinical associate professor of medicine and health policy and research.
