The FIFA 22 Road to the Knockouts promotion was revealed on October 13 as the next event in the Ultimate Team cycle.
Promotions are at the heart of the FIFA Ultimate Team experience. These themed events add new elements to the game through packs, objectives, and team building challenges. Road to the Knockouts appears to be a new promotion this year compared to past events like Road to the Final and more.
Fans expect the foundation of this promotion to remain similar to Road to the Final. EA Sports would be releasing live material for this event where players would be upgraded based on their progress in the Champions League or Europa League.
The new promotion theory has some groundwork, as it would be a bit of a stretch to release new material live right after the Ones to Watch promotion which ended on October 13th. RTTF items aren’t upgraded in the same way as OTW cards, but the game would only get a core promotional squad. RTTF items are released with a boost over OTW items which are only upgraded after a performance-based item (Team of the Week, Man of the Match) is released.
Road to the Knockouts could also be a new name for Road to the Final, but that’s less likely unless EA Sports plays to do another promotion once the group stages are over.
FIFA 22 Road to the Knockouts begins October 15 at 1 p.m. ET.
